Message to Our Members – May 2025

(2 Minute Read) — Each month, we provide you with resources on financial education and fraud prevention through this newsletter. It’s part of our effort to walk with you on your financial journey and to help you protect yourself each step of the way.
We know that scams are getting more sophisticated, putting all of us at risk. Fraudsters are leveraging technology, pretending to be from Unitus and asking you for personal details. I want to reassure you the following:
- Unitus will never ask you for your multi-factor authentication (MFA) code when contacting you; if someone is asking you for it, it’s a scam.
- A government agency will not call and request you send money through a bitcoin ATM or through Peer-to-Peer payment services (i.e. Venmo, CashApp, etc.).
- Unitus is here to help detect and prevent fraud, but we cannot do it alone. If you suspect you’re a victim, contact us immediately.
There has been an uptick in scams targeting federal workers who may be affected by employment reductions. To learn more about how to protect yourself, read our article, “How to Spot and Avoid Job Scams”.
Staying ahead of fraud is a collective effort. Please be sure to:
- Monitor Your Accounts: Set up alerts through digital banking or the Unitus mobile app to keep track of account activity.
- Use Strong Passwords: Set unique, complex passwords for your Unitus accounts and enable two-factor authentication for added security.
- Avoid Sharing Personal Details: Be skeptical of unsolicited messages or calls asking for sensitive information.
If you’re ever in doubt, contact us directly. As your trusted financial partner, we’re here to help you navigate your financial future – and to protect you along the way!
