Message to Our Members – August 2025

(2 Minute Read) —  As we move into August, I want to take a moment to reflect on the progress we’ve made this year and share some exciting updates about where we’re headed next. 

This summer, we officially launched our Social Responsibility Commitments webpage. It’s a space where you can explore the work we’re doing to expand financial access, support small businesses, invest in local communities, and create a more inclusive future. These commitments reflect the values that drive us forward, and now, members can follow our progress in real time. 

One of the most meaningful examples of this work comes from our small business lending initiative. Ricardo and Leticia, owners of Plaza Coyoacan in Southeast Portland, turned a lifelong dream into a thriving restaurant rooted in culture, care, and connection. When they needed working capital to grow, Unitus was there to help. Read their story, which serves as a powerful reminder of what can happen when we invest in local dreams. 

We’re also celebrating the next generation of leaders. We’ve awarded $27,000 in scholarships to nine incredible students pursuing higher education. These scholars are future engineers, teachers, marketers, and scientists, and they are already making a difference in their communities. Supporting their journey is one of the ways we fulfill our mission to improve lives.

And speaking of impact, I’m proud to share that Unitus was recently recognized with the 2025 Designation of Savings Excellence from America Saves. This national award honors financial institutions that go above and beyond to help people build healthy savings habits. It is a testament to the work our team does every day to support financial well-being. 

As we turn the corner into fall, I encourage you to think of August as a fresh start. Whether you are revisiting your goals, preparing for back-to-school season, or just looking for ways to save a little more, we’re here to support you with tools, tips, and resources designed for every stage of life.
