The Unsung Impact of “Give First” Finances and the 50/50 Referral Program

5050 campaign image - refer someone to unitus. $50 for you, and $50 for them

Finance is not a zero-sum game. This is not only a core belief here at Unitus, but a bedrock of our credit union movement. While on the surface this might seem small or even obvious to some, this belief can have a profound long-term impact on individuals, families, and society at large. Consider the financial crisis of 2008, the most devastating economic collapse our country has seen since the Great Depression. One of the resounding lessons from the unfortunate chapter was that seeking higher profits is neither sustainable nor responsible when it comes at the expense of people’s well-being.

You are part of a movement founded on treating people like, well, people – human beings with lives, hopes, dreams, and families who deserve a chance. When we come together and manage our finances transparently with the best interests of each other in mind, we all become financially healthier.

Building our worth together, and tending to it carefully, allows us to develop member-focused products and services like high-yield savings accounts. It funds member-first service improvements and financial education tools such as our series of interactive financial videos, our new app to keep your data more secure, Unitus Card Guard (available on Android and on iPhone), and even our new branch in Gresham. The end result is a win-win for all Unitus members, and that’s by design. The goal is not to maximize profits for anyone but each other. The goal is to better serve each other as people, plain and simple. (Learn more about how we make strategic decisions to benefit our members.)

If you believe in this movement, you may be interested in participating in our “50/50” member referral program. Every time a current member refers a new member, they each get $50. The idea is to help bring more people into this movement that has helped us all so dearly in various ways, and to show people that you can succeed in life and in finance using “give first” principles. It is available until the end of October.

After launching last month, already we’ve had more than 375 members join the movement. The strength of our community has grown as members have increasingly benefited from sharing this genuinely good news with genuinely good people. The program is available today to all members, without limit. Through it we hope to help people learn, grow, and thrive in order to make life better for themselves and the ones they love.

If you are interested in taking part in the 50/50 referral program and earning $50 for yourself and others, here’s some more information you can use below.

How does it work?

From now until the end of October, any time you refer someone to join Unitus, and they meet the requirements, you get $50 and they get $50. If you refer five new members, you’ll get an extra $250 in your checking account. Not a bad gift with holiday season on the way!

The Requirements for the new member

  1. Join Unitus. Then, within 60 days:
  2. Open a Unitus Checking account and debit card, and deposit at least $50 into your Checking account.
  3. Complete one debit card transaction.

Sharing the good news

If schedules make it tough to speak in person or on the phone, send a referral email to a friend at the click of a button through our referral page.

Social-minded? Our posts have more information. Use them to easily share the offer with your friends and link out to them. The explanation, the URL, and the link are all there.

Here are our most recent posts.

To earn the $50, your new member must establish membership by October 31. We look forward to seeing how we can help you use your finances to bring your dreams closer to your reality.
