New Report Highlights Unitus’ Impact in our Communities

A glimpse into the mentorship of a Rose Festival Court Princess

Unitus is thrilled to support the bright young Princesses of the Rose Festival Court during the festival’s annual eight-week mentorship program. In our third year serving as Presenting Sponsor of the Rose Festival Court and Queen’s Coronation, Unitus employees will comprise 14 of 15 Rose Festival Court mentors. While our mentors are glad to share their personal and professional knowledge to guide their Princesses, some say they learn more from these brilliant young women than the Princesses learn from them. To find out more about the mentorship program, one of the most celebrated aspects of the Portland Rose Festival, we spoke with mentor Karen Salman, Operations Support Manager at Unitus.

DID YOU KNOW…

…that this is Unitus’ 80th Anniversary year? After 36 years serving employees of the Pacific Telephone & Telegraph company, we officially became Oregon Telco Credit Union in 1973. In 2001 we became the first credit union in Oregon to receive a “community charter,” expanding our membership beyond telecommunications industry workers. With all the new members joining from all these new communities, we had to adopt a name more suitable to our growing mission. In October of 2004, we adopted a name that would more fully convey our sincere belief in the power we all have when we join together to support each other. On the fourth of October, we became Unitus.
