So what does it mean to be a uSaver?

That's simple! It means you're interested in learning about money and Unitus is here to help you. You can learn through stories about smart ways to spend, tips on how to save and share your money, and all kinds of fun games!

What is a credit union?

A Credit Union is a place where people with a common interests, like where they live or work, come together to save and borrow their money.Credit Unions provide many of the same services that banks do, but there are a few things that make us different:

  • We are "not for profit". This simply means we're not in business just to make money.
  • Money that we do make is returned to you in the form of better rates and services.
  • We're owned by you—the member.
  • As much as possible, the money we make is spent and put back into the local community where you live.

What are you saving for?

Think long and hard…what is that one thing you've had your eye on that you really want? A bike? A video game? A really cool jacket? Maybe a pony? Well maybe not a pony. Whatever it may be, you have the power to save your money and buy it.

So when is a good time to start saving? How about right now! Saving your money is easy to do. Talk to a parent or guardian about setting up a weekly savings goal and then deposit your money into your Unitus account. Before you know it you will have saved enough money to buy that special something.

Piggy Bank Basics

Do you have extra change lying around your bedroom? Maybe you pick up the coins you find and put them in a special place to save them, like a jar or box. However, the very best place to save your money is at your credit union.

Bring your coins into any Unitus branch and we’ll count them for you. We have special machines that count your coins fast. Then we can put your money safely into your uSavers account where you can watch your money grow. Be sure to have an adult with you when you come in. We look forward to seeing you and helping you count up all that change!

Track Your Money

It's really easy to keep track of the money you save and spend. To help, we’ve created a really cool tool for you to download and print called ‘My Money Tracker’ (download below). On this tracking sheet you’ll find three columns labeled: Money In, Money Out, and Total $.

Here's how it works: When you receieve money, simply write in the date and amount in the ‘Money In’ column. If you spend money, be sure to do the same for the ‘Money Out’ column. Then calculate what your total is and write it down in the ‘Total $’ column.

Then at the very bottom of your spending report, write down some things you want to save up for. When your ‘Total $’ matches one of the items you listed, you have saved enough to buy it. This is a fun way to watch your money grow and meet savings goals.
