Question:
I have some money saved up, but how do I keep it safe?

    Dear uSaver,

It feels good to have money in your pocket. There's nothing like the freedom of being able to decide for yourself how to spend it. Of course, that freedom can bring some worries. What if you lose your money? Or someone takes it from you?

Some people would tell you to let your parents keep your spending money for you. But that takes some of the fun out of having it. And that won't help you learn how to keep it safe on your own.

Here are some ways you can protect your money:

    1. Don't wave cash around. It's tempting to let people know you have money. But each time you take it out when you don't need to you increase the chances of losing it.
    2. Carry your cash in a wallet or purse. Carrying them loose in your pocket makes it easier to drop some when you pull them out.
    3. Don't carry more cash than you need. The more you take, the more you have to lose.
    4. Open a savings account at your credit union. Your extra cash is unprotected when it's lying in your dresser drawer. Once you have more money than you need for spending, put the rest where it will earn interest. That's the way to make your money grow for future spending.
