Unitus upholds the fundamental responsibility to actively serve people in our seven county field of membership. We offer member-driven products and services at competitive rates to all of our members.
Unitus Community Credit Union was formed as The Oregon Telephone Employees Credit Union on July 24, 1937, to serve the employees of Pacific Telephone & Telegraph. In February 1972, the Credit Union expanded its membership to independent telephone companies in Oregon and in January 1973 changed its name to Oregon Telco Credit Union.
Later prompted by downsizing of the telecommunications industry, Oregon Telco Credit Union’s Board of Directors sought a change in the membership charter. On April 2, 2001, the State of Oregon approved the new charter and Oregon Telco became Oregon Telco Community Credit Union. This charter made membership available to anyone who lived or worked in the counties of Multnomah, Washington, Clackamas, Marion, Polk or Yamhill. Oregon Telco Community Credit Union was the first to apply for and receive a “community” charter in the state of Oregon.
On October 4, 2004 Oregon Telco Community Credit Union officially became Unitus Community Credit Union. In April 2006, Unitus moved its headquarters to a new building, the Unitus Plaza, located at 1300 SW Sixth Avenue in Portland, Oregon.
In November 2006, Unitus received approval to expand its field of membership to Clark County, Washington.
